Nuova Orfeo è entusiasta di presentare una serata con Laure Prouvost al Cinema Rouge et Noir, l’8 Maggio alle 18:00.
Laure Prouvost è nata a Lille, in Francia (1978) e vive a Bruxelles. Ha ottenuto un BFA dallaCentral St Martins di Londra nel 2002 e un MFA dal Goldsmiths College di Londra. Prouvost ha vinto il MaxMara Art Prize for Women nel 2011 ed il Turner Prize nel 2013. Nel 2019 ha rappresentato la Francia alla Biennale di Venezia.
Conosciuta per le sue installazioni immersive e multimediali che combinano film e installazione in modo umoristico ed allo stesso tempo idiosincratico, il lavoro di Prouvost affronta i problemi di comunicazione e di confusione mentale nell’atto della traduzione fra lingue diverse. È infatti il linguaggio, nel suo senso più ampio, che permea il lavoro video, sonoro, installativo e performativo di Laure Prouvost. Utilizzando il linguaggio come strumento per l’immaginazione, Prouvost confonde la narrazione lineare, le aspettative verbali e le associazioni tra parola, immagine e significato, provocando simultaneamente nello spettatore incomprensione, dubbio e meraviglia, sia intellettuale che sensoriale. Combinando memorie personali esistenti ed immaginate, con riferimenti artistici e letterari, l’artista crea complesse installazioni video che offuscano la distinzione tra finzione e realtà.

Nuova orfeo is thrilled to present an evening with Laure Prouvost
Laure Prouvost was born in Lille, France (1978) and is currently based in Brussels. She received her BFA from Central St Martins, London in 2002 and studied towards her MFA at Goldsmiths College, London. Prouvost won the MaxMara Art Prize for Women in 2011 and was the recipient of the Turner Prize in 2013. In 2019 she represented France at the Venice Biennale.
Language – in its broadest sense – permeates the video, sound, installation and performance work of Laure Prouvost. Known for her immersive and mixed-media installations combining film and installation in humorous, generous and idiosyncratic ways, Prouvost’s work addresses miscommunication and ideas becoming lost in translation. Playing with language as a tool for the imagination, Prouvost confounds linear narrative, verbal expectation and association between word, image and meaning, placing the spectator in a situation of doubt and incomprehension, as well as wonder, both intellectual and sensorial. She combines existing and imagined personal memories with artistic and literary references to create complex film and video installations that muddy the distinction between fiction and reality.
